Donate Organs And Save Lives

You can save up to eight lives after your death through organ donation. Sadly, organ donation ratio in India is estimated to be less than one per million population in India - one of the lowest in the world. Roughly 5 lakh people are estimated to die annually in India due to lack of donor organs. As recorded by Organ Retrieval Banking Organisation (ORBO) of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), only about 8,000 transplants happen each year in India, as against 1.5 to 2 lakh kidney transplants required a year. While the requirement of liver transplants is 40,000-50,000 per year, only about 1,700-1,800 happen each year. In order to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and motivate people to donate organs after death, 13th of August is observed as Organ Donation Day every year.
