International Day Of Yoga 2024

Today's life is hectic and often stressful with the growing hustle and bustle. Feeling overwhelmed and disconnected from others is effortless, with constant traffic and endless deadlines. However, yoga offers ancient wisdom to help us keep our humanity alive, stay calm, and be connected. Four fundamental principles from the Yoga sutras are known as Parikarmas — Maitri (friendliness), Karuna (compassion), Mudita (goodwill) and Upeksha (indifference). These techniques help us keep our humanity intact amidst a chaotic life.

Maitri (Friendliness)

Maitri is a contemplation of a feeling of friendliness. Practising friendliness means being kind and warm to those around us. Simple acts like saying hello to a neighbour, helping a coworker, or doing seva can make us feel more connected. This friendliness makes us happier and helps create a more supportive and caring community. Also Read - 8 Simple Yoga Asanas To Practice Every Morning For Instant Vitality And Peace of Mind

3/7

Karuna (Compassion)

Karuna should be towards those who are suffering from pain. By practising karuna, we can help those in need through volunteering, listening, or simply being there for someone. This not only helps others but also brings a sense of purpose and connection to our own lives.

Upeksha (Indifference)

Upeksha should be towards those who are hurting others. This could be mentally challenging, but one has to remain unaffected by people who engage in evil activities. One has to learn to be indifferent to feelings of hatred, envy, negativity, and violence. One has to protect one's mind from such thoughts and emotions and try to remain in a balanced state of mind.

Conclusion

The wisdom of Maitri, karuna, mudita, and upeksha offers valuable guidance for staying human and living a busy life. By practising these, we can create a more connected and caring community. Yoga provides a path to personal peace and collective well-being, helping us stay human amidst the hustle and bustle.
