India Sees Massive Drop In COVID-19 Cases: State-Wise Look At Easing of Restrictions

COVID Cases Drops In India

India's daily COVID cases fell below 1 Lakh on Tuesday. This is the first time in around 32 days that daily cases have dropped below one lakh. According to the latest data by the Union Health Ministry, the active Covid cases have declined to 9,94,891, comprising 2.35 per cent of the total infections. The national recovery rate improved to 96.46 per cent. There was a reduction of 1,14,047 cases in the active COVID-19 case count in a span of 24 hours, as per the data.

The worst-hit state Delhi had implemented several restrictions to contain the spread of the newly found Omicron variant of COVID-19. However, the state saw a major drop in daily coronavirus cases which helped the state government to decide on the uplifting of the restrictions which were in place. From this week, the city will slowly go back to normal as the government announced the opening of the schools, colleges, gyms, and private offices in the national capital. Amid a steep drop in the daily COVID-19 infection numbers, the Maharashtra government, last week allowed all the parks, beaches, restaurants, gardens to stay open as per their normal timings. The BMC order also uplifted the night curfew in the city following a good recovery phase of the pandemic. As per the latest bulletin, the number of recovered cases in Maharashtra increased to 75,57,034 after 18,423 patients were discharged during the day, leaving the state with 1,06,059 active cases.

West Bengal

After fighting the second wave of coronavirus, Bengal also implemented several restrictions to contain the spread of the virus in the wake of the third wave. However, with the situation coming under control now, the state government has eased down on the restrictions that it had put in place after the emergence of the Omicron virus. Moreover, all the restrictions on travelers from Delhi and Mumbai have also been eased out. According to the new rules, parks, entertainment parks, zoos, museums, and other tourist places will open for visitors. But with only 75 percent capacity.
