Soak In Salt Water Solution

One of the best and simplest of them is a simple saltwater soak. Combine 1-2 teaspoons of salt and a large bowl of water and steep the fruits in the mixture for 10-15 minutes. The salt is used to loosen the dirt and insects and some detritus left behind by pesticides. When soaked, rinse in a lot of running water to get any of the salt and dirt out. The method is particularly effective with grapes, since the solution can access between the clusters.

Use Baking Soda Wash

It is also known that baking soda will aid in the breakdown of certain residues of the pesticides. Bake the fruits in two cups of water after adding a teaspoonful of baking soda and leave to soften for 10-15 minutes. Stir them lightly in the middle of the soaking period. Then, run it tightly under a lot of clean running water. Research indicates that baking soda may be more effective in getting rid of surface pesticides as compared to using just water by itself. Take care to be sure that you do not soak strawberries too long; they will mush up.  Also Read - Pesticides In Vegetables And Fruits Can Make You Obese, Malnourished, Study Finds

Rinse Under Running Water Properly

A good rinse is sometimes not taken seriously. Put the fruits in a colander and put them under running tap water for at least 30 seconds to 1 minute. Wash the grapes, rubbing with fingers. Strawberries do not depend Peel the green tops prior to washing; no, the green tops cannot be used to allow water (and contaminants) into the berries. Adequate rinsing will go a long way in minimising the dirt and surface chemicals.

Soak In Vinegar Solution

Vinegar wash may assist in eliminating bacteria as well as some residues. Prepare a mix of 1 part white vinegar and 3 parts water, then place the fruits in this mix and leave them to soak in it for approximately 10 minutes. This solution could also be useful in getting rid of germs and mould spores. When moistened, wash carefully with clean water to take out the vinegar flavour. Vinegar will not eliminate pesticides, but it can slow bacterial contamination.  Also Read - Blood in Stool Isn’t Always Piles: The Silent Colon Cancer Warning Too Many Indians Ignore

Use A Produce Brush (For Grapes Only)

When dealing with firmer fruits like grapes, rubbing them with the hands would work (or even using a soft produce brush), as it would remove surface residues. Be gentle so as not to harm the skin. Strawberries cannot be brushed, while grapes can stand the slightest friction, which contributes to the loss of dirt and chemicals.
