Experts say that symptoms of HIV may not be the same for women as it is for men. The early symptoms may seem similar in all genders but it may not remain the same. In the case of women symptoms turn out to be a little more unique for example vaginal infections, early menopause symptoms, bone density loss etc.

HIV can lead to bone density loss in women. Bone health generally may become poor in people with age but for a person infected with HIV the process of bone loss can be two times faster. Moreover, this affects women worse than men because of added factors like menopause, hormonal changes and well age.

When you are infected with HIV you may also experience a drastic change in your menstrual cycle which may not seem normal. Some peole might have very heavy bleeding while other may have light bleeding. Women could also have worse pre-menstrual symptoms due to HIV.

The typical age for menopause is different for every women but it can start from the age of 40 and continue up to 50. But, due to HIV this stage can come sooner. Women may begin to notice symptoms of menopause earlier.

Vaginal infection is a very strong indicator of HIV especially if it persists for a long time. This does not happen to men for obvious reasons. But, for women this is a very common sign.

Women infected with HIV are at very high risk of also getting infected with HPV virus which causes cervical cancer.
