There are primarily two different types of cholesterol - LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol and HDL (high-density lipoprotein). The LDL or low-density lipoprotein is what we call 'bad' cholesterol. A person suffering from LDL usually has plaque buildups in the arteries, which is dangerous for the heart. Therefore, in layman's words, bad cholesterol in the arteries can narrow down the blood vessels, decreasing the blood flow to the heart, brain, kidneys, and other parts of the body.
