Heart Attack Management: How To Survive A Heart Attack When Alone

Heart Attack cases have been rising unprecedentedly, and the number has been alarming for the last few years and it doesn’t seem to stop. What makes it concerning is its silent nature. A heart attack occurs when the flow of blood to the heart is severely reduced or blocked. The blockage is usually due to a buildup of fat, cholesterol and other substances in the heart or the coronary arteries. The fatty, cholesterol-containing deposits are called plaques. This condition can be challenging to deal with and can become even more challenging when alone. Let’s look at ways through which you can help yourself during a heart attack while you are alone.

Call for Help

If you are alone, then it is important to seek help and dial emergency services immediately. You can reach out to the local emergency number and clearly explain your symptoms. Inform them of your location and provide them with your address so they can locate you quickly.

Take Aspirin

It has been seen that doctors say that if you have aspirin, then you can help yourself. You may take one tablet if it’s available and you are not allergic; you can chew and swallow it, as aspirin can help thin the blood and potentially reduce damage. It's important to note that this should be done while waiting for emergency help, not as a replacement for calling for help.

Stay Calm and Find a Comfortable Position

This is not the time to panic, but act calmly, as any sort of anxiety can worsen a heart attack, so you should try to stay calm and relaxed to minimize strain on your heart.  You can sit or lie down. If you feel lightheaded or dizzy, lie on your left side with your knees bent. If lying down, elevate your feet slightly to improve blood flow to the heart.

Unlock Your Main Door

This can be a great way to allow the emergency responders to enter quickly, and this will help you ensure good ventilation. You can open the windows or turn on a fan to maximize airflow; a sufficient amount of air will help you reduce the strain of the condition.

Prepare for First Respondents

It is important to be prepared, and so you should keep your medications and allergies list handy, and this will help first responders or doctors quickly understand your medical history. If you have a medical alert.
