Salome Benjamin, former Chief Medical Nutritionist at civic-run Nair hospital, Mumbai lists a few otherwise healthy food that can make you bloated if eaten right before bedtime.

Watermelon-diet-THS

Watermelon – Just like cucumbers, watermelon has high water content and if you snack on it late at night while watching your favourite TV show, it could lead to water retention and bloating.

Coconut Water-fitness-THS

Coconut water is a rich source of potassium (294 mg) and sodium (25 mg) which makes it difficult to digest, if consumed late at night. Despite all the health benefits, it can cause bloating even if consumed on an empty stomach. Peanuts-fitness-THS

Peanuts are very high on fat content and also contain alpha toxins, which can result in increased secretions of bile, which in turn could result in acidity and indigestion if consumed at night. While peanuts make for an excellent snack, avoid consuming them after 7 pm and make sure they are well roasted.

Cruciferous Vegetables-fitness-THS

Cruciferous vegetables – These are vegetables that belong to the family Brassicaceae, like cabbage, broccoli and brussel sprouts. The volatile aromatic acid compounds makes it slow to digest at night if it is consumed in the form of a raw salad.
