Yoga Stretches Office

Sitting for hours at a stretch at your desk not only takes a toll on your eyes, wrist and arms but also contributes to shoulders, neck and back pain. And if getting up from your chair is not possible given your super busy schedule, then stretching every time you visit restroom is not a bad idea. In fact, it will improve flexibility and help you stretch your muscles and improve posture, and that too in a span of five-10 minutes.

Uttanasana

Uttanasana or forward bending pose: Staring at the computer screen sitting in a stooped posture is the major cause of spinal problems and back pain. Hence, try uttanasana yoga pose to prevent spinal problems. Stand straight, raise your hands above the head and bend forward completely till your palms touch the floor. Shoulder Stretch

Shoulder stretch: Be it typing or using a mouse sitting at your desk, your shoulders have to bear the brunt. With simple shoulder stretches you can relieve shoulder pain. To do this, place your arms over the shoulders. Now, hold your right elbow with your left hand and pull and lean slightly backwards. Hold for few breaths and repeat the exercise with the other hand.

Cow-face-arms

Gomukhasana or Cow face pose: Although the asana requires you to kneel down, you can do this in the standing position as well. For this, lift your right arm and bend it at your elbow, such that your right hand touches your shoulder blades at the back. Now, bend your left hand behind your back and clasp your right hands. Take few breath and repeat on the other side. Arm Stretch

Arm stretch: This is a simple stretch that improves your muscle flexibility and also eases the pressure on the arms. All you need to do is extend both the arms above the head, clasp both the hands such that the palms are touching each other and facing the sky. You can do this stretch at your desk as well and not just in the restroom.

Leg Stretches

Leg stretch: The next time you visit a washroom, don’t forget to stretch your legs before leaving. This not only improves blood circulation but also helps you relax the muscles and ease the stress caused due to sitting for long hours. To do this, bend your right leg at the knee and hold it with your right hand for a few breaths.
