In order to portray the role of Mahatma Gandhi, actor Ben Kingsley lost as much as 20 pounds by going on Gandhi’s pure vegetarian diet. Kingsley also practiced yoga, began to meditate and spun cotton thread on a wooden wheel just like Gandhi.
Matthew McConnaughey had to lose a lot of weight (50 pounds) to play an AIDS victim to portray an Academy Award winning role in The Dallas Buyer’s Club. ‘I lived like a bit of a hermit for four months and ate just fish and a cup of vegetables in the morning, and tapioca pudding. I was eating decent meals, just small amounts and I didn’t go outside when the sun was out because I had to be pale,’ he told mirror.co.uk.
