Running is a great way to stay in shape, but if you are new to running, you need to keep a few things in mind so that you don’t suffer discomfort or an injury. These tips from Sagar Pednekar, Fitness Expert, Gold’s Gym, India will help you become a more efficient runner.
Before you take the first stride, you need to make sure that you warm up your body with some stretching exercises. Stretching is vital to make your muscles flexible so that you run much better and avoid injuries or sprains.
Don’t clench your muscles or use excess force while running. Doing so will lower your energy and put unnecessary tension on your body. So keep your body loose and relaxed when you run.
Don’t land on your heels while you run, as landing on your heels can put a great deal of pressure on your knees. Take shorter strides so that you land on the middle of your feet.
Your upper and lower body should be in sync when you run. Move your arms briskly, in sync with your legs. Swinging your arms will counterbalance the momentum of your legs and make you stable.
Running on a footpath or the sidewalk can be most convenient if you live in a city, but those concrete surfaces are one of the hardest surfaces to run on. It may put a lot of pressure on your muscles and joints.
You may enjoy the company of a friend when you go out for a jog or a run but make sure that you are not busy chatting with your friend and focus on running instead.
Wear clothes made of breathable fabric that can also absorb your sweat. Also, wear shoes that are well suited for your foot-type. A little cushioning on the shoes is always preferred.
Make sure that you tie your shoe laces tight so that you don’t trip and fall.
