If you've just started using a treadmill, then there are chances that you could be making mistakes that could lead to injury. The following tips will ensure that you get the most out of your workout.
Don’t land on your toes or heels – land midsole: This is a mistake that most beginners make while running on the treadmill. Landing on your toes or on your heels can lead to injury, so avoid doing it.
Increase the speed gradually: If you are in the habit of increasing your pace quickly, then that is something that you need to change. Start at a slow pace, and increase your pace gradually. Don’t start running at 10 km/hr within a minute of stepping on the machine.
Maintain good posture: Never bend your back or run with a hunch while running as this may lead to injury. Watch a few slow motion videos of how professional runners run and mimic their posture.
Never look at your feet: Even if you are tired, don’t make the mistake of looking at your feet. This may cause you to fall, and also ruin your posture.
Try HIIT: If your goal is to lose weight, then you could consider trying high intensity interval training. Run for 3 minutes at 6 km/hr, and follow it up with a 2-minute run at 9 km/hr. Repeat this cycle four times.
