You may be doing a lot of things to harm your vagina, albeit unknowingly. Right from everyday things like using hair removal creams and hair dyes to synthetic underwear and lubricants, here’s what you should NEVER do to your vagina.
Hair removal creams: It is great to be smooth and hairless down there, but not by using hair removal creams, as it might leave abrasions in the area -- increasing your risk of infections. You can either shave or wax the vaginal area.
Perfumed soaps: Scented soaps are undoubtedly not a hygienic way to keep your vagina clean, as they often contain chemicals that make you susceptible to infections down there. And yes, instead of using sprays to combat a smelly vagina, consult a gynaecologist.
Douching: Vaginal douching (soaking or washing your vagina with water or fluids) is not a good idea as it might alter the pH of your vagina and in turn, increase your risk of infection.
Lubricants: Oil-based lubricants are harder to wash off and in turn act as a breeding ground for bacteria. This can also lead to tampering latex condom, when you use it, increasing your risk of pregnancy or STDs (sexually transmitted diseases). To avoid this, use silicon-based or water-based lubricants.
Bleaching: Unlike how you bleach your face with chemical-based creams, there are high chances that your vagina might get dark as your bleach and doesn’t help you deal with discoloration (if any). So no bleaching, please!
Body art/dye/decoration: Right from colouring the hair down there with a dye to decorating your vagina or going for a body art, most people tend to commit these mistakes. If you were planning for body art or piercing, please ditch the idea right now!
Plastic sex toys: Did you know that most of these soft sex toys are made with phthalates, which is known to be a potential carcinogen? Also, these toys undergo wear and tear and increase your risk of infection-causing bacteria.
Tightening creams or surgery: Want to feel like a virgin again and planning to get vaginal rejuvenation surgery or use tightening creams? Beware of undergoing surgery or using any creams to tighten vagina as it increases your risk of various diseases like HIV, bacterial or skin infections.
