A recent study conducted by Metropolis showed that around 18% of women aged between 15 – 30 years suffer from Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder. And the only way to deal with it is to be aware of the symptoms and get treated on time, says Dr Nupur Gupta, Gynaecologist and obstetrician, Well Woman Clinic, Gurgaon.

Acne

Acne: If you have acne breakout more than usual or quite frequently, it is better to consult a gynaecologist to rule out PCOS. Also, dark skin patches and oily skin might be a sign of hormonal imbalance in the body, pointing to PCOS.

Upperlip-hair

Hirsutism: A common symptom of PCOS is abnormal hair growth caused due to excessive production of testosterone, a hormone responsible for male characteristics. Hair Thinning

Hair thinning: In some cases PCOS can also lead to thinning of hair on the scalp. And if you have been experiencing significant hair fall recently, you should consult a doctor or a trichologist to know the exact cause.

Mestrual-irregularity

Menstrual irregularities: You might have irregular periods or in some cases there might be no periods for few months at a stretch. It might be due to ovarian cysts or PCOS, which could be only diagnosed after you consult a gynaecologist.
