Symptoms Ovarian Cancer

If you have a family history of ovarian cancer, you are undoubtedly at a high risk too. Also, if the cancer has progressed to various parts of the body like breasts, lungs, liver or bone, it can be diagnosed only through an ultrasound. And in some cases, ovarian can co-exist with colon cancer. Hence, it is important to know the symptoms of ovarian cancer to identify the cancer in the initial stage, says Dr Nupur Gupta, Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician, Director Well Woman Clinic, Gurgaon.

Swollen Abdomen

Swollen abdomen: The tumour cells start to secrete hormones which act on the peritoneal lining of various cells in the body. As the cells are irritated, as a counter reaction, fluid is formed in the stomach, causing distended abdomen as in the case of pregnancy.

Loss Of Appetite

Loss of appetite: With drastic hormonal changes and intestinal disturbances, there are high chances that you might suffer from lack of appetite. In severe cases, it might lead to anorexia, causing severe weight loss.

Digestive Disorders

Digestive disorders: In some cases, people suffering from ovarian cancer might show symptoms of gastro-intestinal problem like diarrhoea or constipation. The symptoms might subside for a few days before recurring, indicating that there’s something wrong with the stomach. It could be due to the migration of the cancerous cells from the ovaries to the abdomen.
