January 30th is Anti-leprosy Day. Leprosy, if not detected at the initial stage can lead to physical deformity. Caused due to a virus, here are eight common signs of leprosy that you should keep in mind, says Krishnakant Debri, Senior Family Physician, Mumbai.

The next visible symptom of leprosy is the presence of thickened nerves at or around the elbow region.

Red Spots

In some cases, appearance of red spots on the skin which are lighter than the normal tone of the skin also indicate leprosy.

Lack Of Strength

Loss of strength in the hands and feet due to nerve damage which causes difficulty in holding things.

Nasal Problems

In some cases, even respiratory infection that leads to damage to the mucosal lining of the nose can cause leprosy.
