8 Silly Myths About Vaginas That People Still Believe

2/9

Loose Vagina

Myth #1 - If her vagina is loose, it means she has had a lot of sex. Sadly, many men are still obsessed with a woman's virginity and tend to assume that if her vagina is not tight enough, it means she has had many sexual partners. However, this myth is completely false. A vagina does not and cannot change in size or shape due to how much or how little sexual intercourse she has had.Nor does a man's penis size have any affect on a vagina's tightness because the vaginal muscles are highly flexible and return to their original size. Also Read - Aloe Vera Health Benefits: How To Make Aloe Vera Face Mask For Glowing Skin?

Petite Woman Have Tight Vaginas

Myth #2 - Petite women have tighter vaginas. This myth is far from the truth as petite women don't have smaller or tighter vaginas as compared to tall women. Every vagina is elastic and flexible enough to stretch during intercourse irrespective of how big or small the penis is.

Vaginal Odour

Myth #3 - Even healthy vaginas have a strong odour. This myth can prove to be harmful to a woman's health because a strong odour is in no way a sign of a healthy vagina. Dr Uma Vaidyanathan, Senior Consultant Gynaecologist at Max Hospital, Delhi, says that the common causes of a smelly vagina are bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, sexually transmitted diseases like trichomoniasis and poor hygiene. Also Read - 7 Yoga Poses To Overcome Vertigo And Dizziness

Vaginal Discharge Is Normal

Myth #4 - Vaginal discharge is not normal. This is another myth that is completely false. Dr Vaidyanathan says that vaginal discharge is normal and healthy. Your vaginal secretions will vary based on your menstrual cycles and as long as it is a milky white discharge, there is nothing to worry about. However, if the discharge has a strong smell and is greenish, yellow or gray in colour, then you might need to see a doctor.

Female Ejaculation

Myth #6 - A woman can ejaculate or ‘squirt’ during sex. Unfortunately, porn has given men the false hope that they can make their partner ejaculate or squirt if they manually and orally stimulate her vagina. However, a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that the excessive fluid that gushes out of the vagina or what is known as female ejaculation is just a mixture of urine and glandular secretion [1].

Shaved Vagina

Myth #7 - Men only prefer a shaved vagina. Popular culture and advertisements have made women feel ashamed about having pubic hair. However, you don't necessarily have to sit through painful Brazilian wax sessions or shave down there for your partner. In fact, many men prefer the natural look down there. Also Read - Using Computers May Harm Your Eyes: Know How To Protect

G-spot Can Give Orgasms

Myth #8 - Finding the G-spot will lead to multiple orgasms. It is widely believed that finding a woman's g-spot is a guaranteed way to make her come. However, whether the g-spot exists or not is highly debatable. A study published in the journal Nature Reviews in 2014 says that the sensitive area that makes it possible for some woman to achieve an orgasm is not a spot but an area that is known as the clitourethrovaginal (CUV) complex [2]. The researchers claim that when this area is stimulated properly, it could result in an orgasm for women.
