Fenugreek Methi

Fenugreek is a wonder herb. It has so many therapeutic and culinary uses that Indian homes can't do without it. Also known in Hindi as methi, fenugreek is used for a wide variety of traditional treatment methods. But too much of a good thing can be bad and that also applies to fenugreek. The key is to use it in moderation without going overboard. Here are some of the dangers of using too much methi.

Nail-bleeding1

Blood thinning effect: Fenugreek is a potent blood thinner due to its coumarin content. Too much of fenugreek can therefore pose a bleeding risk in people who are already on blood thinners. [2]

In one 2004 study, effect of fenugreek seeds on male and female rabbits were studied. A 30 percent diet of methi seeds were fed to the animals. The researchers noted that there was significant reduction of the size of the male rabbits' testes and the plasma concentration of androgen hormone and sperm concentrations were halved. In the females, there was a reduction in foetal and placental weight along with changes in their endometrial glands.
