Nearly everyone has an occasional sleepless night, says Dr Satish Kumar V, Consultant Neurologist at, Fortis Malar, Chennai. But certain factors can put you at an increased risk for insomnia. Woman Insomnia

Being a woman: Losing sleep is quite common if you happen to be a woman. Hormonal changes during menses or menopause can wreak havoc in your sleep patterns. The latter also triggers night sweats and hot flashes, disrupting sleep in senior women. Stress Insomnia

The tendency to be stressed: Are nagging thoughts keeping you up at night? Be it job-related stress or relationship woes, getting preoccupied with worrying thoughts can affect the quality of your sleep.

Old Man Insomnia

Ageing: Crossing 60 can also increase your insomnia risk according to Dr Satish Kumar. This is mainly because of sleep patterns that change with approaching age. Insomnia risk increases with every passing year, he adds.
