Air Pollution

Dr Shikha Sharma, Founder, Dr Shikha’s Nutri Health says that there are many preventive care tips that you can follow to manage and tackle pollution. Many of these can be done in the comfort of your homes. Any Indian kitchen is a storehouse of medicinal herbs, here are few ways that can help reduce the ill effects of pollution.

Tulsi: Most households have a tulsi plant, and if you don't, then here's why you should plant one. Tulsi not only helps in absorbing harmful pollutants but drinking one tablespoon of tulsi juice every day helps in clearing pollutants from the respiratory tract.

Ghee: Did you know that consuming ghee every day helps to chelate the toxic effects of lead and mercury, which are the by products of air pollution? Ghee prevents the accumulation of these chemicals in the bones, kidneys, and liver, thus helping you to clear toxins from the body.

Triphala-powder

Triphala: Pollution can also have an effect on the doshas, causing an imbalance in vata, pitta and kapha and increasing your risk of infections. However, this can be restored with the help of triphala as it boosts your immunity and prevents you from infections. The ideal dosage is one tablespoon of triphala churna with one teaspoon of honey at night.

Steam and massage: Not many people know that abhayangam i.e. full-body warm oil massage is a powerful way to recharge the body and mind. Ideally, a massage should be done once a week for detoxification. And if followed by steam for about five minutes twice a day can help in minimising the ill-effects of air pollution. You can add 5 to 10 drops of eucalyptus oil or a drop of peppermint oil to steam and inhale to clear the throat.  Also Read - World Sleep Day 2026: 6 mental health disorders that can quietly destroy your sleep
