Did you know that simple kitchen supplies can help in relieving migraine? Forget potions and messy balms, smelling these herbs and spices can actually give you respite from throbbing headaches.
Shallots or Madras onions are found in most South Indian households. Nip a clove of shallot with your nail, hold it close to your nostrils and inhale its scent deeply. The juice of the shallot has a numbing effect on the pain.
Eucalyptus or Nilgiri oil has been used for pain relief in the Indian households for ages. In addition to rubbing the oil on your temples and forehead, inhale them by putting a few drops on your kerchief or adding them to your personal steam inhaler.
Ajwain or caroms seeds are already valued in the Indian households for its medicinal qualities. Heat two teaspoons of ajwain on a hot pan. Empty it onto a clean piece of cloth and tie it into a knot. Hold this knot against your nose and inhale deeply. You will immediately feel relieved.
Peppermint contains menthol, a known natural analgesic. Put a few drops of peppermint oil on a clean piece of cloth, hold it against your nose and inhale deeply. There will be a marked difference in the intensity of the pain.
