Smartphone Addiction
Kids with phones: A study conducted by the American Academy of Pediatrics revealed that kids who spend more time with smartphones and other media are prone to obesity, behaviour issues, and aggression in school and at home and also suffer from lack of sleep. Avoid giving your children these gadgets very early in life and encourage outdoor games and sports.
Teenagers addicted to phones: Outdoor sports will soon become extinct, thanks to the smartphone addiction that is keeping kids and teenagers indoors. Even if teenagers go outdoors, they are busy texting their friends or playing games or surfing from their phones. No physical activity from a very young age can pose health issues in the long run.
Couples addicted to phones: Gone are the days when looking into each other’s eyes was romantic. Once you have embraced the smartphone, romance means smileys and text messages. But did you know that it could ruin your relationship someday? Moreover, infertility is one of the biggest side effects of smartphones, says Dr Sneha Sathe, Consultant, Nova IVI Fertility, Mumbai.
People outdoors addicted to phones: Some people do not want to leave their phones even while crossing the road or strolling in a park or at malls. Using the phone to check messages while driving or crossing the road can be quite a safety hazard. According to WHO’s research, the number of accidents has increased by three-four times due to the use of phones.
Using phones when having a meal: When you are glued to your smartphone, you don't concentrate on chewing your food and just gobble it. According to a study published in the Harvard Health Publications, if you don’t pay attention to your food while eating, you tend to overeat.
Addiction in family: Do you often look at your phone while watching television or talking to your family? For starters, it is bad etiquette and secondly overuse of the smartphone can lead to problems like hearing impairment, stress, sleep disorders and eye strain.
