In the last couple of years, instances of violence against women have gone up and not just in the interiors of the country but also in the metros that were considered relatively safer. Luckily today, we have easy-to-use safety applications for that can be installed on the smart phone. These go a long way in ensuring the safety of women. Here is a compilation of the highest rated ones on Google Play.

redEye: Seventy three out of seventy seven reviewers on Google Play gave a five-star rating to redEye. Overall it has an impressive score of 4.9 out of 5. What makes this app truly unique is that you don't have to do a thing to set out an alert. The app picks up on any discrepancies in your habits like deviating from your path. Himmat_app

Himmat: A Delhi-police initiative, Himmat is a much-needed app for the capital where crimes against women are commonplace. It has a 4.8 score and 72 users out of 86 have given it a full 5-star rating. Once the woman sends the SOS alert from the app, the location, information, audio and video is sent to the police control room. What's more? Since the app is made for public safety, it is free of cost.

Chilla: Chilla literally means scream in Hindi and is named after the USP of this app. Simply by detecting a scream, it sends out your location and audio to your friends and family. The idea is to save you from the hassles of unlocking your phone screen and opening the app when you are in distress. Pratisaad: Like Himmat, Pratisaad is the Maharastra-government initiative to ensure safety to women in distress. It has a 4.5 rating and 737 out of its 1038 reviewers have given it a five star. To operate it, simply open the app and press the distress button. The app promises 24X7 support and is looking to add more features like the medical application shortly.

VithU_app

VithU: An initiative of Channel V's television show Gumrah, VithU is yet another highly-rated app with 4.2 rating. A whopping 11,096 out of 18,785 users have given it a 5 star rating. Like the others, this app also works by relaying your information out to your loved ones.
