Beans: Having a low glycemic index, beans are less likely to cause a spike in the blood sugar levels. A study suggests that eating a cup of beans daily for three months can potentially lower HbA1c levels by half a percentage point. Notably, HbA1c is your average blood sugar for the last 3 months.
Apples: Having medium glycemic index and containing soluble fibre, apples slow down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream. In fact, they lower the cholesterol levels and keeps you full. Moreover, anti-inflammatory effects of soluble fibre may help in the recovery from infections related to diabetes.
Almonds: Containing magnesium, almonds help your body to use its own insulin more effectively. A study published in the Metabolism Journal revealed that about 45 whole nuts can supply nearly 20 per cent of magnesium, which is linked to lower levels of fasting glucose and fasting insulin.
