Ganpati Plant

Mumbai-based Dattadri Kothur makes eco-friendly ganpati idols that have plant seeds in them. At the end of the festival, you can place the ganpati in a pot with soil and water it. The idol dissolves and the seeds are automatically sown in the pot. Soon, you will have a beautiful plant growing. Dattadri says, 'We want people to plant more trees and the ganpati is a good way to get people to do this,' says Dattadri. We all know that immersing ganpati idols in seas and ponds is a major source of water pollution. This is why Pune-based artist, Vivek Kamble, came up with the idea of creating ganesh idols with alum. Once immersed in water, it cleans the water. He can be reached at www.vivekdkamblesculptor.com
