Mononucleosis, commonly known as the kissing disease, is a contagious infection that spreads through saliva (or kissing). Caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, it is self-treatable. Fever: If you have a high-grade fever (temperature might range from 101°F to 104°F, it might indicate an infection. This coupled with chills is a sign that you should consult a doctor.

Sore throat: Another common sign of mononucleosis is suffering from a sore throat. It could also lead to swelling of the lymph nodes, especially in the neck area.

Headache: Due to high fever you might also experience a headache. In some case, you might end up with body pain along with a headache as it is a viral infection.

Fatigue: Due to fever and headache, most people do not feel like eating anything leading to loss of appetite. This could lead to fatigue in a day or two. Hence, if you suffer from severe fatigue do visit a doctor.

Abdominal pain: You might experience pain in the upper left part of the abdomen. This is due to enlargement of spleen following an infection. So do not ignore it and consult a doctor to get it treated.
