Steam inhalation: To a vessel of boiling water, add some peppermint or cardamom oil and inhale the steam by taking a blanket over your head, making a canopy so that the steam does not escape. The hot air moistens the nasal passages and thus, relieves nasal congestion. Do this twice a day.
Eucalyptus oil: If you don't have time for taking steam, then this remedy is for you. All you need to do is put few drops of eucalyptus oil on your handkerchief and sniff it. Eucalyptus is known to ease congestion and provide relief.
Jal neti: To a litre of water, add 10 g of rock salt, heat till lukewarm and fill in the neti pot. Now keep pouring it gently into your right nostril followed by the left. This causes loosening of the mucus and fight nasal congestion.
Lemon juice and honey: Another age-old remedy to clear the pores and loosen up the mucus is lemon and honey. Drink this every morning for 3 days to get rid of a stuffy nose. To a spoonful of lemon juice add few drops of honey, mix and drink.
Tamarind and pepper: For cold and blocked nose, tamarind and pepper rasam is considered to be a miracle remedy as it clears nasal blockage. To 250 ml water, add 50 mg diluted tamarind pulp, half a teaspoon of pepper powder and boil. Drink this thrice a day.
Apple cider vinegar: Add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and half a spoonful of honey to a glass of warm water. Mix and drink this solution early in the morning as it clears up the mucus and aids in relieving nasal congestion.
Warm liquids: Instead of blowing your nose, sip a cup of warm liquids as they prevent dehydration and also help lower inflammation. You can drink herbal teas, chicken soup or even warm water every few hours for effective results.
