However, these could be signs of an underlying eye condition that may require you to wear reading glasses to correct them. Eye specialist Dr Sadhan Das consultant at Senkaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati tells you signs that tell you that you need glasses.

Recurring headache

Recurring headaches: Sitting in front of the computer for hours can strain your eyes and lead to a recurring headache. A headache could be a sign of astigmatism or hypermetropia. Both these problems can be corrected with glasses.

You need brighter reading light

You need brighter reading light: If your reading light does not seem bright enough, you can turn on a reading light or an overhead lamp. If you need more light, it could be a sign that you need glasses. This can become more prevalent as you age.

Blurry vision: If your vision is blurred it could be a sign you need glasses. Test yourself by looking at a number plate at a distance and check if you can read it. Try reading with one eye for a more thorough test. If there is a problem, you need glasses.

Tired eyes

Tired eyes: If tired eyes are a persistent problem, especially after activities like driving and reading, you must consult an optician and get your eyes checked. Healthy eyes should not feel strained.

Holding book too close or too far

Holding a book too close or too far: The way you hold a book can also say a lot about the health of your eyes. If you are nearsighted, you will tend to bring the book towards your face or hold it about a foot away at max. If you are far-sighted, you might hold the book at an arm’s length. You will need corrective lenses to fix these problems.

Avoid bright lights

Instead, keep a dimly lit light soothing to the eyes if needed.
