These days BPA-free bottles are all the rage. Earlier, people used to retain plastic soda bottles and mineral water bottles and reuse them ad nauseum. But increasing awareness among consumers has made them shift towards supposedly non-toxic plastic bottles that are free of the dreaded cancer causing bisphenol A or BPA. But plastic bottles are not the only ones with BPA. Here are some other day-to-day products that can be as dangerous as plastic bottles!

Water pipes: In many parts of the world, water pipes contain a lining of epoxy resin which causes chemicals such as BPA to leach into drinking water. As the pipe ages, the BPA concentrations in the water will keep increasing. Hot water supplied through these pipes can also increase BPA content.

Laptops: Electronic equipment such as laptops are handled by millions of people around the world. The truth is that BPA forms a prominent part of the plastic used to manufacture some of its parts, like the keyboard.

Cell phones: Some parts of the cell phones contain tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) and tetrachlorobisphenol A (TCBPA), both forms of BPA that has been shown to cause obesity in zebrafish, according to a study.

Pacifiers and teethers for babies: Even products meant for babies such as pacifiers and teethers contain BPA and it has been linked to increased incidences of autism, diabetes and cancer. Parents should carefully check the quality of baby products, especially if it is meant for oral use.

Tooth sealants: Dental or tooth sealants are chemicals used by dentists to prevent cavities and it can contain trace amounts of sealants as part of its manufacturing procedure.

Cash register receipts: Credit card and debit card receipts are often coated with a layer of BPS, a chemical that is structurally similar to BPA. People who handle cash registers are at increased risk of BPA contamination. That's why many people have made it a practice to avoid collecting receipts after cash transactions.
