Almost half our country's population suffers from diabetes and unfortunately, there still are so many misconceptions and myths associated with the disease that exists. Here are a few food myths you shouldn't believe.
Oil: Cooking oils do have an impact on the blood-sugar levels but that doesn't mean that you have to completely eliminate it from your diet. Unsaturated fats such as olive oil, canola oil, corn oil, or sunflower oil can be used.
Eating mangoes: You don't have to shun eating mangoes. Portion control and you are good.
Eating rice: Portion control does the job here too. It causes a slow release of glucose into the bloodstream.
Having salt: Diabetics should consume less salt and eat foods that are typically low in sodium because salt impacts blood pressure. But it doesn't impact blood glucose directly.
Bread: Opt for whole grain bread instead of white bread as whole grain bread is supposed to be low in sugar. However, your portion is really what matters.
