Here on the occasion of World Cancer Day, we list out some famous celebrities across various fields who fought cancer and came out on top to inspire others.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death globally behind cardiovascular disease. Over 1,300 Indians die every day due to cancer, according to the National Cancer Registry Programme of the India Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Cancer is a disease where abnormal cells divide without control and are able to attack other tissues. It can target almost any part of your body and according to an estimate by World Health Organisation (WHO), death rates due to cancer are expected to grow over 13,1 million by 2030. This life-threatening disease can make you physically as well as psychologically weak. There are still some cases where it is still not curable while, today, many people are not only surviving this horrendous disease, but they are also back into their respective fields after winning the battle against cancer. There are many celebrities also, who were diagnosed with cancer and they put up a strong fight against the disease and came out victorious and became an inspiration to those who are suffering from cancer. Here on the occasion of World Cancer Day, we list out some famous celebrities across various fields who fought cancer and came out on top to inspire others.

Yuvraj Singh: A vital part of the 2011 Cricket World Cup triumph, Yuvraj Singh was diagnosed with cancer back in 2012. The international star was suffering from a malignant tumour known as seminoma that was located between his lung and his heart. For the treatment, Yuvraj had to spend over two months in the US and London to recover. The southpaw kept his fans updated via regular social media updates about his health. Lance-Armstrong

Lance Armstrong: The former American cyclist was diagnosed with testicular cancer in 1996which spread to his abdomen, lungs and brain. However, a year later he was declared cancer-free and was back on the track in 1998.

Kylie-minogue-butt-for-5-million

Kylie Minogue: The Australia-born pop singer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 during one of her concert tours. Sonali-bendre

Sonali Bendre: Bollywood actress, Sonali Bendre announced last year that she was diagnosed with cancer, suffered a high-grade cancer. The actress underwent chemotherapy over the last few months in New York and recently came back to India post a successful treatment.

Ben Stiller: Best known for his impeccable comic timings, Ben Stiller shocked his fans when he announced later in 2016 that he survived prostate cancer. He then shared his experience on a radio show as well as separately writing an essay which was published by Medium. Anurag Basu: Anurag Basu, was suffering from acute promyelocytic leukemia, a genus of blood cancer back in 2004. Doctors predicted that he had only 50 per cent chance of survival, yet the famous director did not let his condition get the better of him and he even wrote some parts of a few of his movies from hospital.
