HIV or human immunodeficiency virus is a virus that attacks the immunity system that makes it difficult to protect your body from various infections and diseases. Without proper medical resources, diet and lifestyle, the life expectancy of individuals living with HIV can deteriorate at an alarming speed. Following a healthy diet can make up for the struggling immunity levels of the individual suffering form HIV. Making certain alterations in the diet can help HIV patients fight the disease better. Here we list down a few tips that can help in improving the quality of life of the one’s suffering.


Fibre Rich Food

Increase fibre intake: Fibre or fibre rich foods do not tax your immune system. Fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains contain carbohydrates that contain good number of antioxidants and phytonutrients. Healthy Drinks

Increase the intake of fluids: Increasing the intake of fluids is a very important step to improve the immunity system. Increase your calorie diet The compromised immunity levels of HIV patients increases the need of calorie consumption. The impaired immunity fails to fight away the damage caused by several diseases which negatively affects the absorption of essential nutrients to maintain your lean body mass. Low Fat Diet

Eat low-fat diet: Medication and treatment to treat HIV infection are very strong which negatively affects appetite of the patients and leads to many health complications such as gastrointestinal issues, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. These medications require the patients to switch to a low-fat diet. It is advised to avoid trans fats or hydrogenated oils, canned juices, sweetened beverages and high fat desserts like ice-creams and cookies.


Omega 3 Fatty Acid

Increase the intake of omega 3 fatty acids: Omega 3 fatty acids are very important to improve reduced levels of immunity for HIV patients. Wheat germ, flaxseed, tofu, soymilk, soybeans and soy-based foods are excellent options for vegetarians.
