Start With The Right Shade (Only 1–2 Shades Darker)

Among the largest errors that a beginner makes is the choice of a contour that is too deep or too warm. To achieve a sculpted natural appearance, you should always choose a contour product that is only one or two shades darker than your natural shade and slightly cool-toned to resemble an actual shadow. Creams are readily more blushable and can be smoked by an amateur than powders. You should never buy it without first trying it under sunlight on your jawline.

Follow The “Less Is More” Rule

In terms of contouring, the difference is in subtleties. Initial small quantities of product and expand as required. Wipe on a few drops instead of tracing a coarse thick line. More product is much easier to incorporate than to remedy a contour that is too heavy-handed. Blush eases all of it and prevents smudgy or spotted makeup.  Also Read - 7 expert recommended beauty trends you must avoid in 2018

Find Your Cheekbone Placement Correctly

Finding your cheekbone with your fingers or sucking your cheeks gently is the way to contour your cheeks. Use contour immediately below the cheekbone and proceed close to the ear, then halt in the middle of your lips. Never pull the contour too near the mouth, as this pulls the face down. Hold the product up into the sky instead of downward so as to give a lifted effect.

Blend Upwards, Not Downwards

Contour can be made or made by blending technique. Apply with a wet beauty sponge or a fluffy brush and rub upwards and tap. Fusion down brings the face to appear drooping or dirty. It aims at achieving a soft shade of shadows that fades naturally into your foundation without leaving any lines.  Also Read - Make your face appear slimmer with hair contouring!

Don’t Forget To Balance With Highlight And Blush

Unless the face is well balanced, one can easily be flat only with the help of contour. Apply a gentle blush slightly above the line of contour in order to make it warm and fresh again. The effect can also be added with a light highlighter on the top of your cheekbones to add to the sculpted look. Blended together, this has the effect of creating dimension and making your makeup appear fresh and not overly dramatic.
