CPR- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is always to be practised by trained and certified people, but even if you are not one, you can save a life. Here's how you can perform CPR on a baby:
Check if the baby is conscious. The best method is to flick your fingers against the baby's feet. If the baby doesn't respond, immediately call for emergency help and go ahead with the next step. If she is conscious but choking, it is a good sign, and you should go ahead with giving her back blows. Also, check baby's pulse place your index finger and middle finger on the inside if the baby's arms, between the elbow and shoulder. If there's no breathing or pulse, go ahead to perform the CPR, as it is a combination of breath and pulse.
Open the airway: Gently tilt the head back being careful not to tilt far.
Give two breaths: Cover the mouth and nose with your mouth creating a seal and give two gentle breaths, watching to see the chest rise and then release.
After doing the first two rescue breaths, check for brachial pulse , continue with CPR if there is no pulse.
Give 30 chest compression: First, put the baby on a hard, flat surface. Then with two fingers, find the centre of the chest of the baby, it has to be just below the imaginary lines between the nipples. Now, push down with your fingers, 1/3 the thickness of the chest. Do this at a rate of 100/minute.
Continue CPR on the baby until help arrives or you see a sign of life. It will help the blood flow to the brain and other vital organs until the time advanced medical help can take over. Don't give up!
