There are a variety of soaps available these days, ranging from antibacterial to anti-acne, moisturising soaps and the list is really long. However, at times we tend to pick the wrong soap for our skin type which can cause pH imbalance and lead to skin problems. Moreover, dermatologist, Dr Nivedita Dadu advises that using too much soap on your face can make your skin dry and flaky. Here are some tips from her.

Antibacterial Soaps

Antibacterial soaps: These soaps have antibacterial agents like triclosan or trichlocarbon. The pH is in the range of 9 to 10 and they are available in liquid or bar forms. However, excessive use of these soaps can cause dryness and irritation of the skin. Anti-acne Soaps

Anti-acne soaps: Anti-acne soaps should be used at least twice a day mainly on the face, chest and back where acne is more prevalent. However, overuse can cause red flaky patches on the skin. This soap is good for people with sensitive skin who are acne and infection prone. While picking up an anti-acne soap look for ingredients like Vitamin E, jojoba oil that is effective for conditions like eczema and psoriasis among others.

Herbal Soaps

Herbal soaps: These contain gentle herbs like chamomile, lavender, peppermint, spearmint, oatmeal and avocado. Olive oil and shea butter are also used in these soaps. Olive oil is known for its skin-regeneration and radiance properties, contains vitamins and antioxidants that keep free radicals causing damage your skin at bay. Herbal soaps are good for people with dry to combination skin. Moisturising Soaps

Moisturising soaps: These soaps contain olive oil, shea butter, paraffin, glycerine etc., that gives softness to your skin. Olive oil has anti-ageing effect on your skin while soaps with shea butter, contains vitamins that acts as a good moisturiser. These soaps are good for people with dry and combination skin.
