Winter takes a huge toll on the quality of hair and makes it dry, dull and frizzy. To add to it, we don't think twice before using styling products to look our best which end up worsening their quality. Here are tips from Shahnaz Husain on what you should not do to your hair in winter.

Washing Hair With Hot Water

Washing your hair with hot water--Your hair and scalp lose moisture when you wash your hair with hot water as a result of which your hair looks dull and limp. Wash your hair with lukewarm water instead. Mix two tablespoons of vinegar in a mug of water and rinse your hair with it to lock in the moisture. Also Read - Vitamin D Deficiency in Kids: 5 Warning Signs of Low Vitamin D in Your Body

Not Conditioning Them

Not conditioning them--Hair conditioners improve the texture of the hair and soften them preventing breakage and also help tame the frizz. Use a creamy conditioner, gently massage a small quantity it on to your hair after washing them with shampoo. Don't forget to apply it on the ends. Leave it on for two minutes and then rinse if off with water. You can also use a leave-in conditioner.

Not Oiling Your Hair

Not oiling your hair--In winter, the scalp becomes dry which can cause itchy and flaky scalp. Oiling the hair provides it with nourishment and makes them soft and healthy. Massage the oil gently into your scalp with your fingertips, moving them in a circular motion. Keep the oil overnight and wash it off the next morning. Also Read - Mindful Communication: A Key To Cultivating Mental Resilience

Use Hair Strigheners

Using a hair dryer or a hair straightener- Like hot water, hair dryers and straightness also cause dryness because of the heat they generate. Don't use hair straighteners if your hair dry and brittle already, use a hair dryer instead. Also, avoid using a hair dryer directly on wet hair. Let your hair dry naturally and then use a hair dryer from at least 10 inches away.
