Dates are considered to be a natural source of magnesium, a mineral that can relax the uterine muscles and ease menstrual cramps, Agarwal notes in an Instagram post.

Not only are they tasty, but bananas are also packed with immense health benefits. According to the nutritionist, bananas contain high amounts of potassium and magnesium that can prevent dehydration and reduce menstrual cramps.

This wonderful spice is a superfood. It contains anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties. As such, it can reduce cramps and 'calm down' uterine contractions. The expert suggests sipping on some soothing ginger tea.

Jaggery

Jaggery is a 'delicious sweetener' and a natural source of iron. Agarwal says it can combat fatigue and weakness that often happen during periods. It is also known to provide a 'warming effect' and help with the flow of blood.

Spinach And Other Greens

Eat your greens to improve the iron content in the body. According to the expert, the body tends to lose iron during periods, so it has to be replenished by eating leafy greens like spinach. It can make you feel strong and energised.

Vitamin C can help your body absorb iron more efficiently. Eat bell peppers, oranges, and grapefruits as they are all excellent sources of vitamin C. It can also help prevent inflammation.
