Air pollution leads to an estimated seven million premature deaths worldwide every year, largely due to increased mortality from stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and acute respiratory infections. according to the WHO. Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown, the sky has become clear, and air is cleaner too. Studies have found considerable reduction in the air pollution levels during the pandemic. For example, a study published on medRxiv last revealed that pandemic-associated lockdown led to reduction of air pollution at both ground level and tropospheric levels by 20% across 20 countries. Reduced Ocean Noise

Covid-19 lockdown led to reduction in ocean noise as coastal waterways became devoid of non-essential vessels, revealed a joint study by scientists from New Zealand and Canada. Rising underwater noise poses a significant treat to marine life. The study, published in Global Change Biology, found that overall that the ability of dolphins and bigeyes to clearly hear each other more than doubled during lockdown.

Many offices introduced work from home (WFH) for employees during the COVID-19 pandemic.
