Made from fermented grape, wine is not just a loved alcoholic beverage, it is also a famous cooking ingredient used for taste, flavour and colour. It provides moisture and helps in slow cooking the meat. Sauce made from wine (red and white) is savoured all over the world. When wine is used for cooking, the alcohol content evaporates with the heat, but the flavour remains. Food that is cooked with wine is considered healthy for the heart as it comes with added good cholesterol from the wine. But if you don’t have wine at home, can use a few other alternative options. Pomegranate Juice: Pomegranate Juice shares the same acidic properties with wine. Its flavour and aroma is also similar and it can be easily used as a non-alcoholic substitutes of wine. It also contains antioxidants, which helps in controlling blood pressure.
Cranberry Juice: Cranberry juice is a direct substitute for red wine. The colour, flavour and acidity level are all the same. It is a bit more sweet than red wine, but you can adjust it by avoiding additional sugar.

Apple Juice: The light colour and sweetness of apple makes it an excellent substitute for white wine. The acidity level is less, but you can adjust it with extra vinegar. The flavour of apple juice is strong, so try using it in dishes where you use less wine.
Tomato Juice: Tomato juice has the same colour and acidity level as red wine. But the taste is bitter. You can balance it by mixing other fruit juices with it. But use it more for marinating. It contains antioxidant like lycopene, which can decrease the risk of heart attack and cancer. Hence, it is a great non-alcoholic substitutes of wine.
