Cardiometabolic rate combines two health parameters - your body's cardiovascular health and metabolic rate. It includes conditions like hypertension, blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, and stroke. Usually, your dietary habits, exercise, genetics, and lifestyle impact your cardiovascular health.
Metabolic Rate
A high metabolic rate means the ability to burn calories quickly and thus lose weight.
A low metabolic rate usually means a sluggish or slow weight loss journey. Your body's metabolic rate is measured as BMR, the basal metabolic rate of energy used during resting periods. TDEE is total daily energy expenditure, the sum spent on all daily activities, including workouts.
When we measure cardio metabolic rate in children, we must check parameters like blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, and insulin resistance during their early childhood days. It's essential to look at their lifestyle parameters like dietary habits, junk eating habits, and sleep.
The biggest bane of today's food culture is the fast food culture, which has highly processed foods in the market. These have an addictive nature and are so detrimental to a child's health that they negatively impact a child's physical and emotional health and even brain development.
Processed Foods

They are refined to the point that they trigger leaky gut syndrome and a host of health issues connected to it. It leads to a nutrient intake deficiency and stunted growth issues in many children. Besides, some of these foods contain harmful preservatives, additives and colouring agents that can impact the endocrine glands and cause serious health issues like thyroid, obesity, Pcod or Pcos, mood swings and irritability. It even impacts Neurodevelopment and causes mental health issues like lack of coordination and lack of concentration in some children.
In some children, it leads to hyperactivity and behavioural problems:
Most of these ultra-processed foods are designed for addiction to feed the profit coffers of the FMCG companies. The high sugar and fat content leads to addiction, higher intake of calories, obesity and weight gain. It can also trigger cardiovascular health issues like cholesterol, high blood pressure and hypertension. Many children have started showing insulin sensitivity and are at risk of type 2 diabetes.
The lack of fibre leads to gut health issues like bloating constipation, where the undigested foods become u-digested metabolic waste and remain in the system longer than needed. When they start leaking into the bloodstream, they circulate to various organs, leading to a host of problems like colon health issues, food intolerances, frequent cold cough, weak immunity, brain issues and Hashimoto's and thyroid.
One of the most common problems from processed foods that plague children is dental health issues, like cavities and caries. Encouraging a diet rich in whole foods is crucial for supporting a child's growth, development, and long-term health.
