Snack options for picky eaters seems like an uphill task! One such easy and healthy recipe is vegetable upma. It is rich in proteins and fibre and great to treat your child s constipation too. While no one would need a recipe to make upma, I am sharing how I made mine for my daughter when she was eleven months old. At times, this would also double-up as her dinner, especially when we were out in the evenings. Here is another interesting weaning recipe apple badam kheer.

Ingredients

  • cup suji or rava
  • 1 spoon butter
  • 2-2 cups of boiled water
  • Salt to taste (optional)
  • Choice of vegetables: Grated carrots and beets, boiled potatoes and peas, finely chopped boiled beans.

Method

  • In a pan, dry roast the suji till it turns golden brown continuously stirring over a low flame. Remove from flame once done.
  • Next, heat the butter in a pan and add the vegetables and saut for a while.
  • Once the vegetables are cooked well in butter, add the suji and water. Allow it to cook for a while with the lid closed. Keep stirring so that there are no lumps. You can decide on the consistency by adding more water to it. Here is another mixed vegetable khicdi recipe for weaning babies.
  • You can add a dash of salt to it if you wish; however, it is better to avoid salt till one year of age.

Quick tip: If your baby has just started weaning you can add pureed vegetables instead of grated ones.
