The UNICEF video of the little girl getting lost in the streets of Georgia is doing rounds on the internet. While I thought it was unfair of people to throw her out of the restaurant, this video made me think what would I do in a situation like this? As they say, it is easier said than done. Maybe I would be judgemental like the people there in the video, or maybe I am already guilty of it without even realising.
Yes, the discrimination they show in the video is a true eye opener. The discrimination what many children go through every day, and it is unfortunate. It is a pity that this judgemental mentality is deep-rooted within us, and it is high time that each one of us looks beyond colour, race and appearance. I love the idea of social experiments as they make you rethink your perspective in many ways. Thanks, UNICEF! But again, is it right to get a child actor go through so much? We saw at the end of the video that the child actor was so disappointed that she left the place crying. We could clearly see that the 6-year old Anano was deeply affected by the social experiment. These impressions of people treating her badly may never leave her mind, and she may even develop body image issues. So this is a message to all the parents of the aspiring child actors out there, think twice before you send your child for auditions. Think of what you are putting your child through. While your child may win many applauds for his or her performance, the profession may have many negative influences on your child. These tips will help you raise a smart child.
