It is educational and it s fun. Get colourful fridge magnates with shapes, trees, animals, flowers, alphabets, numbers and anything else that you can think of. While you are occupied in the kitchen, ask your little one to arrange alphabets in order or stick all animals on the fridge. You will have to try and new combination every 1-2 days as kids get bored of the same thing too fast. Ask them to arrange similar colours together, or make the animals walk in line and so on. 2. Newspaper treasure hunt

A friend s little one would not allow her to read the newspaper at all. So she came up with this trick and now both mommy and daughter are happy. In fact, the little one waits for the newspaper more than the mother. She asked her daughter to find one alphabet each day from the newspaper. If done correctly, that letter is sketched on paper by mommy, coloured by the toddler and pasted on the wall of the kid s room. After 26 days, the trick will be to find lower case alphabets followed by numbers, colours pictures and much more. Read: Tips to get your child toothbrush ready.

3. Washing vegetables

Working in the kitchen and wondering what exactly can be fun and keep your kid occupied too? Take a bowl of water and place it on paper to avoid wetting the floor. Now place potatoes or tomatoes in it and ask your little one to wash it thoroughly. Toddlers find this fun and it makes them feel that they are involved in the kitchen activity with you. Besides, they are around so you don t have to worry what they will be up to if left in another room.

4. Books

You love reading? Inculcate this habit in your child too at an early age. That way, both mommy and baby can sit in bed and read their respective books. You will need to read a few books for them initially but once they start loving books, they will be happy just flipping pages and seeing pictures and pretend to read like mommy. Know what the best age is for your child to start reading and writing.

5. The water game

Give kids some water to play with and they are the happiest. Take a big tray or shallow tub. Place several bowls in it. Fill one bowl with water. Show your kid how they can pour water from one bowl to the other without dropping. Then from the second to the third bowl and so on. Tell them that the day they achieve the task without dropping any water in the tray, they will earn a reward.
