Motherhood is difficult, even without the constant judging, and interference. The little diapered humans do the job well enough to keep the mothers on their toes. So why poke your nose and make it even more difficult. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom or any other kind (the different kinds of moms is a whole different topic), you get your share of criticism, flak and back-handed compliments, but mostly if you are a stay-at-home mom. However, it is all interesting as long as the 'well-wishers' (read haters) say something new. Old and boring is not welcome. If you are wondering what some stale things are that you should not say to a stay-at-home mom, let me help you.
What do you do all day: This had to be the number one. We know that a lot can be achieved in a day, even if you discount 8 hours of sleep, 4 hours of daydreaming, 6 hours of active nose-poking in other people's business, 4 hours of thinking how to do the said nose-poking, and 2 hours of general shenanigans that you do. So what does a stay-at-home mom do all day? Well, even if you did get your hands on a stay-at-home mom's schedule, what will you do about it?
How come your eyebrows are undone: Just because a stay-at-home mom has a lot of time on her hands (or so you think), does not mean that she spends that time in salons. For all you know, she is left with just enough time to wash her face once a day in between school runs, various errands and cooking meals.
It must be amazing to spend all day in pajamas: Guess what, some stay-at-home moms actually take a bath every day and wear clothes that are not lycra. Well, sometimes at least. Also, even if you work outside home, don't you feel like wearing pajamas to office? It's just an article of clothing, don't fuss over it.
I can never be a stay-at-home mom: Well, probably that's why you aren't. How is your preference a deciding factor for my life? We are living different individual lives. Staying at home works great for me, thanks for asking.
You have the perfect life: Let's analyse this observation of yours. What is perfect? Having somebody pay your bills while you lounge in a spa sipping coconut water is perfect? Sorry to blow your bubble, you ignorant being. Stay-at-home moms do their share of work, just like you, to maintain the balance of the world. They experience various emotions too, that sometimes includes sadness, stress and even grief. Houseflys live a perfect life because all they do is buzz around and sit on random things.
So do not piss off a stay-at-home mom. You have been warned.
