As a parent, a paediatrician is a really important person in your life. But sometimes you might just land up at a wrong doctor looking for the right kind of care your child deserves. And this could be really frustrating and let me tell you, you don t have to put up with your doctor s rude behaviour. In fact, if you think doctors take you for granted then you are wrong. At least, that kind of behaviour is never expected from a paediatrician. So here are 10 signs that can tell you that you landed up at the right clinic for help.

Cue 1: Your doctor responds to all your mundane questions without a qualm

When it comes to new moms and sometimes overprotective dads, the concerns regarding their little one never ends and some questions that we parents tend to ask could at times be a no-brainer. But if your doctor is empathetic enough, he will never dismiss your concerns as silly questions. Remember, when it comes to child care, no question from the parents can be less important. Here are 12 things you should never keep around your toddler for safety concerns.

Cue 2: Your doctor tries hard to make your child comfortable

When it comes to paediatricians, some go the extra mile to act like a friend rather than a doctor. No, they aren t trained to behave like that, but they put that extra effort to make your child comfortable through those pricks and bitter medicines. If your child feels comfortable with your doctor then you probably have the right one for you. Here are eight ways to ease your baby's post vaccination pain.

Cue 3: Your doctor believes in your philosophy of less-medication-more-care

Not all doctors believe in writing a prescription every time you visit. Sometimes you might just want to have a casual check-up done and a reassurance from your doc that everything is fine. If your doctor refuses to write medicines for a common cough and cold, especially antibiotics to treat viral, you are on the right track.

Cue 4: Your doctor is supportive of your decision of extended breastfeeding

Whether you want to breastfeed or bottle feed is a personal choice. But if your doctor is of the same opinion it helps you to serve your child s nutritional needs better. Else, if you are in favour of prolonged breastfeeding and your doctor decides to advise you against it, that could lead to arguments. Here are 12 things you should not do while breastfeeding.

Cue 5: Your doctor is always there to answer your queries, even at 2 a.m.

This is what every mother needs, if you cannot report the sudden bout of fever to your doctor at 2 am and seek advice then probably you should change to a more child-friendly doctor.

Cue 6: Your doctor takes care to go through the entire medical history of your child

With hundreds of moms visiting your doctor every day, he might not be able to keep in mind your child s entire medical history. If your doctor takes some time to go through all the files to recap all the treatments and medicines given to her, then you can be certain that he is indeed prescribing the best solution according to him.

Cue 7: Your doctor supports your idea of seeking a second opinion

If your doctor is open to taking opinions on certain matters, supports your decision and refers you to someone who can help you address your further concerns, all more reasons why you should be consulting him more about your child s well-being.

Cue 8: Your doctor answers to your same old questions repeatedly with patience

Your questions are like a pattern: Why my child doesn t eat? Why is she not putting weight? What more should I feed? And your doctor patiently answers it every time giving you enough assurance that things are fine, and you feel satisfied too. What more can you ask for?

Cue 9: Your doctor has the same views about vaccination as yours

Not all doctors will tell you to go for all the shots that are printed on the chart. If your doctor resonates your opinion on vaccination, believe me, it is awesome. People have different views on immunity building of children, and if your doctor believes in your views, it s a good sign.

Cue 10: You and your baby get positive vibes when you meet your doctor

This is most important you really feel peace to talk about your problems with your doctor and your child can just be herself around the paediatrician, no fear, no tension.
