I would be going on a road trip soon with my seven month old baby. The entire journey would be for about 15 hours with a break in between. Though I have started to wean her but its restricted to pureed fruits twice a day. I have tried pureed apple and pear till now. Since I would not be carrying a lot of stuff with me during the travel I wanted to know if its fine to feed baby those canned pureed fruits that you get in the stores these days?
If its just a one day affair you can try doing that to keep your baby's hunger pangs at bay during the travel time. But remember you can still work on better options. Apart from the milk that you would be giving your baby, carry steamed pieces of apple with you which can be mashed easily without a blender with your fingers and is a healthy option than the pureed canned fruits. Alternatively you can also try giving bananas while on the go. Just peel it and mash it in a feeding bowl and offer spoonfuls. Other feeding options can be of fruit juices and water. Make sure you keep her well fed and hydrated during the travel to avoid travel sickness.
Ideally feed her enough feed before you set off for the journey. Keep a gap of 20 minutes between the feed and the start of your journey. Increase the number of breaks in the journey as you would need to feed your baby after every two or three hours. It's ideal to do that while taking breaks in between and not inside the moving car.
Also remember to burp your baby well after the feeds. It's important to tackle travel sickness while going long distance with the baby.
So stay of those artificial foods during travel if possible to avoid any allergy trigger. There would be small amount of preservatives present in those packaged foods too. If you haven't tried them before it's not a good idea to do the same while you are on the go.
