I took my toddler on a trip all by myself — and here’s why you should too

I had the most amazing vacation with my toddler, and here's why I want every parent to follow suit.

Last year, I had taken a trip with a friend and our children. Just the four of us. Mothers and daughters. And it was the most relaxing vacation ever. Our daughters bonded amazingly, and we both could steal a few moments of me time while the other looked after the children. This year again, I was looking forward to a trip like that, but unfortunately, my friend had other commitments to look after. So I was left with one choice, to take my toddler all by myself. And I liked the idea. Being a working mother, one thing I badly want is to spend some good, undisturbed time with my daughter, and a trip with her would mean exactly that. Initially, I did have some reservations. Will travelling and lodging be safe, will it be difficult to look after my child alone. How will I manage to go to the bathroom, or take a shower or excuse myself for even a minute? In light of all these concerns, I decided to book a trip for just 2 days. Shouldn’t be that difficult, I told myself. Also Read - Here is why you should book yourself a weekend trip right away

It was the best thing I ever did with my child.

Those two days were the most relaxing and blissful days I spent with my daughter. We sang, we danced, we jumped and spent hours and hours soaking in the pool. I figured her, and she figured me. I learnt to let go shut the nagging mom in me. My daughter understood the boundaries she could push and what the no-go zones are. Most of all, it was refreshing to spend some alone time away from home, no worrying about the pending chores, about work for the next day and rushing through bedtime routine. and this is why I feel every parent should do a trip like this. Spending some fun, unrestricted, unstructured time with your child. In a place that you both explore together. I know family trips are fun too. But with just the two of you by yourselves, you both have just each other to focus on. The difference is just going on a honeymoon or on a trip with your spouse and parents together.
