After over a month of discomfort from delivery and infant care, you suddenly look in the mirror and wonder who it is? Post delivery period can be quite exhausting, especially if it is your first time and you are just learning to handle the sleepless nights, the crying infant and so much more. Self-maintenance is last on your priority list at this hour. But once all that is done and you are little settled, you start realising that you desperately need a hair spa or some root or colour touch-ups, pedicure and a visit to the salon is long due.

If you are planning to take your little one along and keep him/her in the pram while you pamper yourself, stop right now. The salon is not the place you want to take your toddler to. We asked Dr Rajiv Uttam, Chairman Paediatrics and Neonatology at the Nayati Hospitals, Mathura if it is safe to take your baby to the salon and here s what he has to say.

Did you know even adults are prone to contracting infections at a salon then why not kids? Whether or not you are going for a beauty treatment that involves chemicals or strong fragrances or even a haircut, your baby must not accompany you. You might just be in for a pedicure but there are others in the salon who are using these treatments and that is what makes it unsafe for the child. The aerosol and chemicals, perfumes and other products can cause infections and skin allergies in children. No matter how clean the salon, there will be some hair particles which could aggravate asthma and make children prone to respiratory allergies or infections, as it will be many people in a closed environment.

It is best to make a short trip to the salon every day if you need multiple beauty services and let someone take care of your baby while you are away.
