Children love lights, crafts, celebrations and traditions. That for me is Christmas! The carols, decorating the Christmas tree, decking up the house and waiting for Santa to deliver gifts is every child's fantasy, right! To make things even more interesting and also to start a new tradition, I involved by daughter in decorating the house and the Christmas tree last year. She enjoyed the whole process, even though she was only a little over a year then. This year since she is a toddler and can do cutting and pasting better than last year, I have got a list of activities that I plan to do with her. You should do it with your children too. Get out the Christmas sweaters, warm socks, make a pot full of hot chocolate, play some carols and set to work!
DIY candy cane: A Christmas tree without candy cane is boring! The idea of doing crafts with kids is to focus more on the process and make it fun. Also, I like to make things out of everyday things, because why would you DIY when you have to buy a thousand and one things? For DIY candy cane, you will need a few ribbed drinking straws and red tape. That's it. Show your child how to wrap the red tape around the straw to make it look like candy cane and let her do the rest.
Glitter stars: Again, an easy peasy craft. Cut out different sized stars of thermocol. Brush a light coat of glue and let your tot sprinkle as much glitter as she wants on her star. Since sprinkle is notorious in the way of getting into every nook and cranny, you might want to spread out a plastic mat over your work space, and also hand out limited amounts of glitter to your little artist.
Snowman out of cardboard rolls: Do not throw the cardboard rolls after the toilet paper gets over. Let your tot paint it white. Then give her some sticker eyes and mouth and let her make her own snowman. You can tie a little bandana around the snowman's neck to complete the look.
Pasta ornaments: Find pastas in the most prettiest shapes you can. Also, get some liquid colours in metallic and glittery colours. Let you child colour the pasta. You have beautiful, blingy ornaments ready to go up on the tree.
I hope you enjoy doing these activities with your child, as much as I do. One thing is sure, you will make many memories doing these crafts with your child.
