Rangoli is one of the most beautiful traditions of Diwali. A lot of Indian households draw rangolis throughout the year. Did you know that real rangoli or kolam is actually made up with coarse rice flour coloured with natural pigments? This practice was known to keep insects and pests away from your home by attracting them to the rice flour. The rangoli that is sold in most stores these daysmay be made up of harmful colours and dyes. Have you noticed how are hands go rough after using some rangoli powders? And then there are some colours that don t go away no matter how much wash them.

Here we round up a few DIY rangoli powder videos that you can watch to make your own rangoli at home. These YouTubers have used ingredients like salt, rice flour, sand, spices and food colouring. Of course, it will take some time to get used to the texture of this all-natural rangoli. But let us tell you that the texture is very close to the rangoli you get in stores. 1) This video uses salt as the main base for Diwali. For colour, a variety of natural ingredients are added turmeric for yellow colour, vermillion or sindoor for red. For other colours, you can opt for food colours. As you can see in the video, the rangoli looks just as beautiful with these natural rangoli colours!

2) If you live close to the beach, this will be perfect for you. You can take some sand from the beach. Make sure it is clean and there is now garbage in it. Pass the sand through a sieve so you can only the finest and uniform sand granules. In a small container, take any food colour and add it to a little water to make a watery paste. Add this coloured paste to the sand and mix it. The sand will gradually take up the colour. Make sure you dry the sand completely by spreading it on a plate, before using it.

3) This video shows you how to make the traditional rice flour rangoli. All you need to do is soak rice in water for half an hour. Drain the water and spread the rice to let it dry completely. Then powder it in a grinder. You can also mix this with a little bit of salt to get a good texture.
